As a twenty two year old female, I can arguably say that my set of priorities are quite vivid and diverse. However, over the years, if there’s only one thing I’ve come to love about myself, it is my hair. You see, when you are a bundle of insecurities and inevitably so in the world we live in today, you very dearly hold onto the few good things you do have. For me, that ‘dear thing’ has been my tresses and thus the hair care.
So, a little background: my semi-wavy-semi-straight hair has been irritatingly thick, full of volume and very easy to grow since I was a little kid. So, obviously, like any other callous teenager, I subjected it to a ton of atrocities ending up with severely damaged hair. Heating, colouring, over-braiding, dry shampoos, sprays; you name it and I’ve done it. And, literally for the fun of it, because I have always kept my hair open when going out, so these things were just to explore the possibilities.
It was about a year ago that I realised that something was wrong with them when I had to twist a hair-tie three times to make a pony. Since then, I’ve taken matters into my hands, turned to kitchen and made my hair better with everything natural. These hair care hacks have helped me not only with over-coming the damage, but also with regaining the volume and length.
Eventually so, I’ve started to hear many compliments on ’em again which came with questions. Which is why I decided to address the issues I had with my hair and the hair care routines that helped me overcome them. Now, remember, these routines are 100% natural and require effort, dedication and time. However, the result will be nothing less than phenomenal. Also, these are absolutely proven whether you are a woman or a man. *wink*
1. The Lime Fix
Fixes: Dandruff, Oily/Greasy Hair
Ingredients: 1 half cut lime, Mouth wash
This is by far the best and easiest hair care routine I know. All you have to do is squeeze the lime juice in your scalp and massage and use what’s left of the lime piece to tease more edges of the scalp. Once everything is cover, leave it in for 20 minutes and then wash your hair like you normally do. Then use the Mouth wash as a conditioner.
2. The Weekend Oil Mix:
Fixes: Damaged Hair, Split ends, Helps recover volume
Ingredients: Olive oil, Coconut Oil, Mustard oil and Almond oil
So, you basically mix these oils in equal proportions. Then you laden you hair and massage your scalp with them. This is to be followed by a steamed towel under which your hair needs to rest for about 45 minutes to an hour. Then keep the oil in for about 3-4 hours and wash it.
The reason why it is called a weekend oil mix is because it will take considerable amount of time and effort to get so much oil out of your hair. However, it is definitely worth the drill.
3. Honey and Tea Party
Fixes: Dull hair, dryness, sweaty scalp
Ingredients: Tea that matches your hair color and Honey
Unsweetened, brewed tea can bring shine to your hair as well as enhance your natural color. Add a teaspoon of honey to naturally moisturize it, too. Rinse with a mild shampoo once done.
Color tip: black tea for brunettes, chamomile tea for blondes
Voila! That’s about my ertsy hair care routines. If you anything to add or enquire about, feel free to write it in the comments below. Till then, stay ertsy and be your own desire. x
