You’re a blogger, confident about your content, motivated and passionate but how do you get people to your blog? Read on to know some life-saving SEO tricks for bloggers, digital marketing enthusiasts, and content marketers. As a part of Ertsy’s growth section, I always try to bring something new and valuable to add to your lives in this space.
First things first, blogging is tedious, serious business. If you’re doing it to make something out of it, it takes more time and money than you could’ve ever imagined. The worst of all, there’s no way of ensuring the success irrespective of the hard work you put in. Which just entails the fact that even if you’re a content genius, content marketing is a whole different ball game. Creating a niche, being consistent and working on the quality of your content is just the first stepping stone. In fact, the next one is quite a bridge to cross- the SEO. Which is why I decided to share these 5 SEO tricks every blogger needs to know.
1. Identify your Meta-Tags but don’t rely on them
So, a meta tag contains keywords or phrases alerting search engines of a website’s content to be included in search results for users requesting related information. Once you’ve identified your niche, identifying your meta tags shouldn’t be that difficult. Take them as the hashtags you use on Instagram to target your audiences. Keep them crisp, targetted, consistent, and don’t shy away from using them. However, meta tags aren’t to be relied on completely, so always keep shuffling them(in the same way you do on Instagram) but try to be as consistent in the niche as possible.
2. Create an Internal-linking and back-linking strategy
An internal link is a type of hyperlink on a web page to another page or resource, such as an image or document, on the same website or domain. So, try to create a web of links in your articles that lead to other articles. You can identify similar keywords, pictures and sometimes even add it as a reading suggestion, like:
Backlinks are incoming links to a webpage. When a web page links to any other page, it’s called a backlink. They not only help you with direct traffic but also helps improve the page ranking. So, be generous to other bloggers, leave comments and always add your blog link at the end. It does no harm to them and helps you with your backlinking strategy. Welcome such backlinks on your blog, too but don’t forget to make your site ‘NO-FOLLOW’ in order to minimize the Bounce Rate. Also, consider exchanging Guest Blogs.
3. Go all out on Social Media but don’t forget the keywords
Social Media is another way to create the SEO juice. It won’t attribute to your backlinking directly but will surely help the Domain and Page authority and eventually the Moz rank. Again, things you need for better search engine ranking. Always try to keep the keywords consistent when using social media, though. Apart from the SEO tricks, Consider adding yourself to groups for your niche and sensitively promote there, too.
4. Use Google Analytics for a constant track
Google Analytics doesn’t only help you to keep a track on how many people are coming to your site but helps you understand their behaviour. Basically, it helps you identify what is your target audience and what kind of content is working for you. Additionally, if you’re on analytics, your website is more likely to be ranked by google in searches, too. Don’t forget to use to google set up properly and fill all fields with relevant tags, country of use and other data to help google rank you at the best places.
5. Use Enhancement Tools and widgets for SEO tricks
Use widgets, extensions and tools like Yoast, Disqus, and Alexa to help you through the SEO journey. There are also several listing sites on the internet that help you submit a link for backlinking for free and add to your SEO juice. Spend time in understanding what would suit your need and niche the best and add to it. Keep learning, keep adding and keep reinventing.
What to watch out for:
These are some things you need to see to track your success/strike rate-
Alexa Rank, Moz Rank, Domain Authority(DA), Page Authority(PA), Back Links
However, understand that despite all your attempts these numbers will only show significant difference with time (a lot of domain aging), and continuous traffic. After all, it is a cycle (more like a whirlpool), the better your SEO is, the more people reach your blog, the more people reach your blog, the better your website is indexed by search engines.
You may have some motivating times and some really tough times when despite doing everything, your numbers would be off. Remember to not lose hope and re-strategise instead. Content marketing is time-consuming, twisted and vague, but when it does work, it works wonders.
