12 Hours in Abu Dhabi

Following my Dubai long weekend trip last week, I made a short stop for 12 hours in Abu Dhabi to explore the capital city of UAE. With so much to offer, I took it upon myself to make the best out of the 12 hours I had here. This is a compilation of those 12 hours, perfect for a short trip or even a layover while visiting another city.

What

Literally translating to ‘Father of the Gazelle’, Abu Dhabi is the capital and the largest city of UAE. Covering about 80% of the country itself, this city lies between a mix of the sea and the desert. In 2016, the city of Abu Dhabi ranked among the world’s fastest-growing destinations with more than 4.4 million tourist arrivals. And we understand why by observing the number of attractions, hotels, deserted beaches … This city directly competes with Dubai and may overtake it if, as expected, the metro is created.

How

So, this trip was an extension of the Dubai trip with my girlfriends as we were supposed to take our return flights from Abu Dhabi. As we had no hotel bookings in Abu Dhabi itself, we basically rented a car for ourselves for all of 12 hours and drove around with our luggage. I highly recommend doing this as the city doesn’t have extensive public transportation. Besides, car rental is fairly cheap and drivers generally trustworthy. You’ll not only save money but also time taking this path.

When

Exactly like Dubai, the best months to visit are between November and March. I did visit in the worst heat period- June end/July and it wasn’t absolutely unbearable. However, you can definitely not enjoy outdoors much during this time due to the excessive humidity.
