2020 spring has begun its fashion tirades. At the peak of the Spring/Summer fashion season, we’re being served looks after looks. So, let’s talk about trends for a moment. I know, it’s always difficult to find the right translation of trends into your day-to-day. That’s why I tried to put together my favorite 2020 Spring trend-inspired outfits you can actually wear.
1. Polka dots and Belted blazers
The polka dot trend made another strong showing in this year’s fashion shows (& continues to). In fact, I won’t surprised to see it next season either. From being featured on the basics by Dries Van Noten and Christian Lacroix to being used as volume enhancers on Balmain polka dots were everywhere. Altuzarra went a step ahead and confirmed that when it comes to polka dots, all shapes, sizes, and colors are welcome.
I especially liked Wes Gordon’s take in the Carolina Herrera show who went for a fitted, the ’90s on sheer for one of his outfits. That’s why I chose the polka dots and tulle skirt combo for my first outfit in this list. In fact, I even topped it with a belted blazer. Belted blazer is a carryover from the last season, too, but going stronger than ever.
My outfit follows a nude pallet not without bouts of drama. From the sleeves on the polka dot blouse to the asymmetric skirt and the studded belt on this premium quality blazer, the outfit is elevated while being very wearable in your everyday. I even added a pastel, matte finish bag to my outfit which made even more bougie.

2. Overdone prints & Torso-ruching combo
When JLo closed the Versace 2020 spring/summer in a reimaged version of her iconic plunging Grammy dress, I just knew tropical prints were making a comeback. What was different for me this season about the tropical prints was that they looked overdone in a 60s drapes kinda way and I totally loved every bit. From Prada to Marc Jacobs, everyone featured these retro prints.
For my outfit, I found a dress that is the interpretation of these retro prints. However, I especially went for the one with torso-ruching to make the prints look a little less vacation-esque (if it is even possible). Torso-ruching is another trend that made many appearances in this year’s trends. So, it was a perfect combination. I paired the dress with a pair of scarf-knot moccasins & a beautiful pearl basket bag because I already looked so extra. Go big or go home, y’all! Nevertheless, I could totally see myself wearing this outfit on a nice day out this spring.

3. The tiered ruffles & ginghams
Tulle, as I mentioned before, has been flowing in since last season. 2020 spring took it a step further in the form of lovely and light tiered dresses that manage to offer volume, high drama, and maximum twirl-ability. Oscar de la Renta and Roksanda took the idea pretty in pink, while Preen, McQueen, and Dior went classic in black and white.
For my outfit, I used a sheer black dress with the tiered ruffles and paired it with a gingham crop jacket. This was my most preferred outfit out of the three I put together because of how effortlessly chic it is. I think I’ll be spotted in this outfit one-too-many times this spring. I paired with my scarf-knot moccasins and took the pretty pastel sling bag with it.
