With the festivities and the December holiday mood blanketing the entire world, Paris winter stands beautiful and glorious as ever. The weather in the city is chilly (avg between 8°C to 4°C) but crisp & comfortable. The food is warm, sweet, and inviting, and the people well, despite the ongoing strikes, are in the festive mood. So, with winter ‘holidays’ starting in less than a week and the right kind of factors sit combined, I decided to make a list of 5 winter festive things to do in Paris.
1. Follow the lights
From the street lights in Champs-Elysees to the high tech light display on Bd. Haussmann, Paris winter festive lights are a spectacle. They are usually visible from November till the end of January. About every big street in the city will have some kinds of lights but the best ones can be found at the following venues:
- Avenue Des Champs-Elysees
- Boulevard Haussmann
- Bercy Village
- Avenue Montaigne
- Rue Du Faubourg Saint-Honore
- Saint Germain-des-prés
- In And Around Place Vendôme
- Viaduc Des Arts
2. Shop at the Christmas Markets
Like many other European cities, Paris winter has some beautiful Christmas markets that are ruled by local delicacies, fresh cheese, wines, novelties, handicrafts, clothing, and a lot more. Of course, there’s a Christmas/holiday market in every neighborhood. The ones that are especially amazing are:
- The Magic Of Christmas, Tuileries Garden
- Eco-friendly Christmas Markets At The Recyclerie
- International Children’s Village
- Christmas Village On La Defense Esplanade
3. Ice-skate indoor
Christmas isn’t really white in Paris, neither are other holidays. In fact, snow usually graces Paris winter in January or February, if at all. But that doesn’t stop Parisians from enjoying an ice-skating feat nonetheless. So, every year some beautiful venues in the city host temporary ice-skating rinks for all. Between November and January, you can find them here:
- La Défense
- Forum des Halles
- Galeries Lafayette
- Grand Palais des Glaces
4. Attend a concert or go to an amusement park
It may sound obvious but Paris hosts rather beautiful spectacles for the holiday-themed entertainment. Whether you’re a person of finer taste or someone who just wants to take an amusement park ride, there’s something for everyone. Enjoy a show at the Opera House or visit the Disneyland or Asterix Park nearby, you’re certain to be entertained. Many suburbs and prefectures host their own free events to celebrate the community festive spirit, too!
5. Sip hot wine and walk around in Montmartre
If you’re a hippie soul like me and find yourself worn out with all the city things like above, rush to the beautiful Montmartre district of the city. Get a hot wine or any other hot winter drink from the local cafés and walk around looking at the art and skyline of Paris. Revel in the poetic romance and celebrate the joyful vibes.
So, well, that’s all in my list of 5 winter festive things to do in Paris. If you can think of more, do leave them in the comments below. I would love to discover new things to do in the city.
