While I am a sucker for fashion, exaggerated clothing scares me more than I’d like to admit. To start with, the drama of the ruffles and bows beg for the occasion to be proper. And if that isn’t a big enough issue, the chances of highlighting the less desirable areas of your body are umpteen in number. However, if there’s something I’ve learned about fashion it is to do with having an innate understanding in styling a dress that can make all the difference. Which is basically what compelled me to style this couture-esque high fashion dress in a Day to Soirée look.
The Key Piece:
The key piece I’ve used in my look is a Shein Gathered Sleeve Bow Embellished Belted Dress. For starters, this is a very tricky piece for my body type, because It hides my neck and bulks my shoulders and arms which is everything I’d usually dress to avoid. However, the color of the dress and the fact that it comes with a beautiful belt made me want to take a risk and try to style it. I have to mention that the dress is for €20 (INR1.3K) but the quality and the look of the dress is rich and luxe in all the right ways. I wore it to high fashion streets in Paris without any hesitations and fit right in.
The Style Prep:
I wanted to keep my look as neutral and versatile as possible so I decided against wearing any accessories other than a cute faux-fur sling bag to keep all my essentials in. I went for a nude pallet makeup but emphasized on my eyes with a lightly creased blend. While I usually keep my hair down, I put them in a ponytail for the day look to appear sharp and cut the bulk of the already bulky high fashion dress. Of course, feel free to let your hair down and flip ‘em on a side when in the soirée mode! *wink*
Because I wanted to check the practicality of the look, I experimented with the set up in one too many ways. Had a dressy work day followed by a walk on the high fashion streets of my city which followed a coffee and bistro dinner session and then finally I ended my evening (or didn’t) dancing in a party club. I have to say that the dress was not only comfortable but also fit in perfectly with each of the set-ups. Honestly, I had so much fun that I finally overcame my fear of ‘overdoing’ with any high fashion dress, too!
The Key Takeaways:
My biggest takeaway from this style experiment is that no matter how much you may fear it, you define the style of your dress and not the other way around. And this made me eager to initiate more fashion experiments and keep finding my style.
Other than that, I also have become a bigger fan of belts. Usually, I’d never wear a bulky straight fit dress but the belt just makes it look so classy on me that I can’t even! However, that is not limited to just this outfit, it’s a universal fact that I’ve accepted!
So, that’s all about my style experiment in a high fashion dress (kind of). What do you think about it? Do you think this look would work from day to night for you? Do you love the dress I’m wearing?
